The recently announced UMIDIGI Z2 just went up for pre-sale this week. Until 18 June customers will be able to grab the beautiful new phone for $249.99 from Gearbest. After the promotional period expires, the price will increase to $299.99. So you better act fast.
UMIDIGI is quite confident the Z2 will be able to eclipse the competition, including the new Xiaomi Mi 8, which also features a notchy display.
While the Xiaomi Mi 8 boasts a modern design and a high screen-to-body ratio, it still pales in comparison to the Z2 when it comes to aesthetics. That’s because UMIDIGI has adopted a Huawei-inspired “Twilight Gradient” coloring on the back that looks quite stunning. Two additional colors, Twilight Black and Black are also available. A forth color dubbed Phantom will become available in the next 2-to-4 weeks.
On the other side of the coin, the Xiaomi Mi 8 packs a superior AMOLED display, while the Z2 takes advantage of an IPS LCD screen. Both phones offer full HD+ resolution. Xiaomi’s model also wins in terms of performance, as it relies on a Snapdragon 845. The Z2, on the other hand, includes an Helio P23 SoC.
UMIDIGI Z2 vs Xiaomi Mi 8: How do they compare?
While we’ll have to wait and see how the two devices perform in the photography department, we can tell you the UMIDIGI Z2 has a dual 16-megapixel+8-megapixel (f/2.o) rear-facing camera. In contrast, the Mi 8 has a 12-megapixel (f/1.8) + 12-megapixel (f/2.4) combination on the back.
When it comes to selfies, Xiaomi’s flagship incorporates a sole 20-megapixel front camera. But the UMIDIGI Z2 features a secondary dual-camera setup comprised of 16-megapixel + 8-megapixel sensors.
Both phones run Android 8.1 out of the box, yet the Z2 offers a near-stock cleaner experience. While the Mi 8 has MIUI 9.5 laid on top.
Battery life is an important aspect for many people looking to buy a new phone and UMIDIGI knows this all too well. The Z2 packs a 3,850 mAh juice box, while the Mi 8 includes a smaller 3,400 mAh one. Equipped with 18W fast charging, the Z2 can be fully charged in about 80 minutes.
If you need another reason to get the UMIDIGI Z2 here it is – pricing. It ships for only $249.99 with 6GB of RAM + 64GB of storage. In contrast, the Xiaomi Mi 8 with the same internal configuration sells for $550.
The company’s other flagship, the UMIDIGI Z2 Pro will go on presale next month.
On top of that, UMIDIGI also announced the 10 winners that will get a UMIDIGI Z2 Pro & UMIDIGI Q1 wireless charger for free.
