Don’t look now, but the rumor is churning again, this time for a successor to the LG Optimus G. Yes, the same Optimus G that has only recently gone on sale. According to Korean Maeli (translate), LG is readying an Optimus G2 for release in the second quarter of next year. Possibly arriving in May, the handset is set to feature a 5-inch LCD display at 1080p resolution with the same 440 pixel per inch image as other new models. For what it’s worth, Samsung is rumored to have a similar screen tech for the Galaxy S4.
Additional specifications for the Optimus G2 include a Qualcomm quad-core MSM8974 Snapdragon S4 2GHz processor, LTE support, and -wait for it- Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.
Should LG be working on such an animal we suspect we’ll get a formal announcement in February at Mobile World Congress. The last few years have been the preferred venue for LG to show off the hot, new tech.
Before you run off jumping for joy and thinking this is a done deal, consider this is but one rumor. With some six months to go before the rumored arrival, it makes sense if only from a “yeah, that timing matches up” perspective. As for the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and quad-core 2GHz CPU? We’re not holding our breath just yet.
