New images of Kindle Fire successor show Skype support

The fellas over at The Verge have published a couple more photos of the presumed Kindle Fire 2, one of which shows Skype video calling.  We noticed the camera in the last leaked photo and expected the ability to take photos at a minimum.  Here, the Skype integration just tickles us because it adds another layer of functionality to the device.  We also get a first look at the UI of the next Kindle Fire which appears to be more streamlined than its predecessor.

It’s not quite clear whether these images are of a 7-inch or 10-inch model but The Verge’s Chris Ziegler suggests it may be the latter.  Further, we don’t know if they are the same model, finished designs, or just some mockups for use inside Amazon. All should be revealed in a few days.

Perhaps the stuff that gets us most excited about the new Kindle Fire is that we expect a competitively priced and feature-rich experience for consumers.  If it just happens to apply a little pressure on the Nexus 7 and other Android tablets, so be it!
