Muzei is a live wallpaper app that applies a new, beautiful piece of artwork as your wallpaper every day. Even with the busiest and more colorful artwork, Muzei makes sure your apps and widgets standout from your wallpaper by automatically blurring and dimming your wallpaper to create a gorgeous background for your homescreen icons to live. A quick double tap of your homescreen will revert the blurred wallpaper to the original so that you and others can admire your beautiful background. After a few seconds, the wallpaper will dim and blur again in a smooth animation. If artwork is not your style, you can choose to have your own pictures displayed as your background. One of the best features of Muzei is that it offers an API so that developers can create their own wallpaper source. That means people can create apps that work with Muzei to apply certain pictures as your background.

Why should I use Muzei?

Muzei adds something to your phone’s appearance that no other app provides. The blurring effect can create a more beautiful background than any picture you could find. Also, you can use your own pictures in Muzei and have the shuffled through at a regular pace. The addition of apps that work with Muzei gives you even more wallpaper possibilities. All of these wallpapers plus the constant refreshing of a new wallpaper means that your phone always looks new.

How do I use Muzei?

Not only is Muzei a beautiful app, it is also extremely easy to use. After activating Muzei, you will be brought to the normal Android wallpaper screen. Selecting “Settings” will bring you into the Muzei customization settings. You will first be brought to the “Sources” menu. Here, you can select where you want your wallpapers to come from. The default to “Featured Art” which will add a new artwork as your wallpaper every day.

Selecting that settings gear will bring up a new screen where you can add specific photos to be shuffled through. Once you add photos to this screen, only the photos placed there will be used as wallpapers. The clock in the top right lets you change how often the wallpaper is changed, from never to three days.

If you have any other sources downloaded, they will appear on the source selection screen, too. To discover more apps, you can tap the menu in the “Sources” screen and select “Get more sources.” This will open the Play Store and show you a list of all the add-on sources there are.Muzei settings

Back the the “Sources” screen, you can on Sources to go into the “Advanced” menu. Here, you can select how blurred, dimmed, and greyed your wallpapers become. You can also have a notification appear every time your wallpaper changes. You are also given the option to have your wallpaper blurred on the lockscreen.

After you have selected what source you want for your wallpaper, tapping the checkmark in the top left will bring you back to the default Android wallpaper screen. You can select “Set Wallpaper” and that is all it takes. Now you have a beautifully blurred wallpaper that constantly changes to keep your homescreen looking fresh.

Where do I get Muzei?

You can get Muzei for free in the Google Play Store. There are no ads and no pro version so you get all the features of Muzei free. All of the add-on sources are available through the Play Store, too. Many of them are also free.

Muzei is one of the easiest ways to always make sure you phone has a new look. Since the wallpapers change constantly, you always have something different to look at. Plus, the blurred and dimmed images make it easier to see all the apps and widgets on your homescreen. Muzei is definitely recommended for anyone who is looking for a cool way to display their wallpapers. Are you going to use Muzei or have you used it in the past? Tell us your thoughts on it in the comments. And while you are down there, leave a suggestion for an app you would like to see featured in a future Monday Makeover! Have a great week!
