Adding Another 2 Million Songs, Shazam Grows Database by 30%

One of favorite Android apps to show off is Shazam.  We love to break the G1 out and demo some of the cool stuff it can do and this is one of those applications.  Although we’ve yet to run into any problems identifying songs, the guys at Shazam have taken it upon themselves to grow their database.

“This increase in our database cements Shazam’s position as the leading mobile music discovery service in the world. With our strong music alliances we gain access to the most relevant music well before many other music services, which ensures users can discover popular and niche music all over the globe.

No matter where they are, or what they’re listening to, users are taken on an unforgettable musical journey. This unequaled user experience and superior technology has made Shazam the perfect partner for mobile phone operators and handset manufacturers across the world.” – Will Mills, Head of Music

With over 8 million songs in the database now, we can’t imagine ever running into that problem.  Got a G1 or iPhone?  Try it out for yourself.  Next time you hear a song you can’t quite place, tag it with Shazam and find out what it is.  On top of that, pull up a link to Amazon’s store to purchase the track, get the artist’s MySpace page, or read reviews. Not only is this one of the best music apps we’ve encountered, it’s among the best Android has to offer.

Since 2007 we have offered news and opinion around Android, the mobile space, and connected homes. We aim to help users get more from their smartphones and hope to be a valuable resource for future purchases.

  1. Yeah, I recently used this application with great success on my G1. I heard a song on a television commercial that I liked. I rewound the TV (using Tivo), and re-played the commercial, holding up my G1 close to the television. Sure enough, a match came up, and I was able to click the Amazon link to download the song to my phone. It was amazing, and the whole process took place in a few minutes. This application is fantastic.
