AT&T, doubling the size of their Android-based GoPhone offerings overnight, has announced the upcoming availability of the ZTE Avail.  Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and featuring a 3.5-inch display, 5-megapixel camera, the Avail should make for a low-cost step up from the LG Thrive.  We’re hoping to see this somewhere in the same ballpark of $149-$179 without a contract.  We’ll find out once AT&T decides to give us the rest of the story.

Features of the AT&T Avail:

  • UMTS 850/1900/2100
  • GSM 850/900/1800/1900
  • Internal memory: 512 MB ROM, 512 MB RAM, 2 GB microSDâ„¢ card
  • Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
  • 3.5-inch capacitive touch screen
  • 5 MP autofocus camera and video recorder
  • Seven customizable homescreens
  • Wi-Fi capable
