I love to browse through crowdfunding campaigns on a regular basis as some of the coolest and innovative ideas are born through Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Both websites vet potential startups and concepts as best as possible, but ultimately the consumer decides if an idea is truly good or not with their wallets.
I’ve come across two campaigns which I think are fantastic.
The first campaign is one that is near and dear to my heart. I drink a lot of coffee. I probably drink too much coffee, but I love it and can’t live without it. There’s a good chance you drink a lot of coffee too.
In 2015, Gallup took a poll of Americans and reported that 64% of adults consume one or more cups of coffee per day. 2.7 cups was the average amount of coffee each drinker consumed, which means we consume almost 1000 cups of joe per year. Most of us can get by on poor to average coffee, but when a cup is brewed the right way, it can be a taste of heaven. Out of the 1000 cups you consume, you deserve a better brew.
That’s where GINA comes in; it’s the first smart coffee instrument with a built-in scale and an app enables you to brew coffee with pour-over, immersion and cold drip.
Most of us brew our coffee based on rough estimates provided by manufacturers. However, as a chemist, I know brewing coffee can be an exact science. GINA has a built-in Bluetooth scale that allows you to weigh out the same amount of coffee each time you brew it. It saves all of the information from your latest brew so you can perform the same method once you perfect it. Or you can share the information with other owners of GINA to help them in their quest for the perfect cup of coffee.
While most coffee makers just brew hot coffee, the GINA does hot and cold for those of you who love to enjoy your coffee both ways.
The best part about GINA, with all of the tools built-in – scale, timer, and app – it allows novice users to enter into the world of high quality coffee without the need for hours of experimentation.
GINA is already a hit on Kickstarter where it has already surpassed its goal of $50,000. You can get in on early bird pricing for $160.

Smart connected homes are the way of the future. Lights, thermostats, sprinklers, and other appliances are already being controlled by smart devices and more are added almost every week.
Vivoka recently launched its Kickstarter campaign, Zac the home automation box you control with a raccoon hologram to voice control your home, improve your security and save energy.
“Unlike Google Home, Zac brings a human and personal side to home automation. It is also compatible with every connected devices and systems in a house and much more secure, as we don’t have access to any of the data”, explains William Simonin, CEO of Vivoka. “With Zac, we really wanted to make home automation simpler, more fun, and more accessible.”
Zac also saves on your energy bill by monitoring power consumption of your connected smart devices and offers solutions for decreasing usage. It’s smart enough to predict your schedule and offer scenarios to turn off the lights and heater/AC when you don’t need it.
If you’d like to pre-order ZAC, you can get in on early bird pricing at $192 and it ships to anywhere in the world.
