US Cellular has joined the ranks of the carriers who have gotten or going to get the LG Optimus, an Android powered low end smartphone.
Announced via a press release today, the LG Optimus U is going to sport the following features:
- Android 2.2. This is a win to have Froyo out of the box
- 3.2 screen
- Swype preinstalled
- 3.2 MP Camera
The phone is free with an eighty dollar mail in rebate, so there is very little risk in picking up the unit if you are in the market for a new smartphone and a US Cellular customer.
The unit will be available on December 13th of this year, and will have all the Google goodies we have come to know and love. Let us know if you will be picking this unit up in the comments.

Low grade android phones now coming with froyo and my “high end” Galaxy S Vibrant still running on 2.1! Never again Samsung, never again!
I believe the ball is in Verizon’s court on this one, not Samsung’s.
Yeah, not so sure that this was a good move for either of them.
I personally have one LOVE It!!!!!! It’s hard to find adobe flash player. I have Sprint. For some unknown reason I am having a problem getting the google/sprint app market to allow adobe flash . Actually they don’t even have the app option available. When I went to asobe.com I was blocked by a transparent screen that blocked site interaction. Weird but I need FLASH HELP!!!!!
