As an owner of both the Apple TV and the Chromecast, I have been thoroughly disappointed with one of these devices, and extremely satisfied and surprised by the other. The Chromecast has done more than I ever thought it would, and with all the apps that are continually updated for support, makes me believe that this is a more viable option for streaming services. Especially with the ability to natively cast your screen from your Android device to the Chromecast, this gives a HUGE edge due to how easily users can do this.

Earlier this week, reports came out stating that the Chromecast has finally taken the number two spot, in streaming media devices, now only trailing the Roku series. Although the Chromecast is only one device, and Roku has multiple devices, the Chromecast now sets it’s eyes on the prize.

When the first report from Parks Associates was released, the Chromecast wasn’t even listed in the top 5, now, it’s jumped to 20% of streaming media devices in the US. Along with the ability for technology enthusiasts to easily cast their screens, the benefit that the Chromecast has over other devices, is that users don’t need to install any apps to the device itself. Even iOS users, like myself, can easily get their Chromecasts set up and running with no pain at all.

Compared to the Apple TV, the interface looks beautiful, is simple to navigate, and doesn’t have any headaches when getting used to using it. With more and more apps being updated, on what seems to be a weekly basis, Chromecast is quickly becoming more and more popular.

With all of the recent Black Friday specials, some of which saw the Chromecast drop down to $15, and as a device that already costs $35 without any specials, it’s going to be interesting to see how these numbers fluctuate. The only thing we can do is continue to watch the market, and see what other apps will be updated to support the Chromecast.

  1. Chromecast is interesting and there’s much more that u can do with this cool device. I’ve combined mine with UnoTelly and now I have access to all regions of Netflix and thus, acess to much more content than the Canadian Netflix. Did you know that every new episode of Better Call Saul was available in Netflix UK one day after it aired in US by AMC? Pretty cool :)
