HTC has officially announced the stylish, pint-sized Explorer today, tossing it online and tapping it with a fourth quarter overseas release. As we expected this phone will be available in a variety of color options and feature some entry-level hardware under the hood. Following in the path of the HTC Rhyme, the Explorer looks to be more about function and features rather than the specs. The phone runs Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.5 custom interface.

On the subject of hardware, the Explorer offers consumers a 3.2-inch HVGA (320×480) display, a 600MHz processor, 512MB RAM, and a 3.0-megapixel camera. Certainly not the type of phone you replace your current device with but definitely appealing to new smart phone buyers.

In terms of color options, there are three to choose from: Metallic Black, Active Black and Metallic Navy. Should you want to jazz it up a bit more, you can pick up one of the optional back covers: Metallic Blue, Metallic Orange, Metallic White and Metallic Purple.

Hit the break to check out a few additional shots of the HTC Explorer as well as a few videos demonstrating the phone in action.
