geeksphone_oneA startup company based out of Spain has decided to throw their hat in the Android ring.  In the spirit of OpenMoko and community-oriented assistance, GeeksPhone will soon be announcing their first Android handset with the code name of “ONE“.

According to the tip we received, it will be the first truly unlocked Android phone on the market, allowing root access to the handset rom the time you turn it on.  The price is already being estimated at about 250 euros, or around $350 US dollars.

As far as preliminary specs go, here’s what we gather from the picture:

  • 624MHz processor
  • 3.2″ resistive screen
  • Quad band, EDGE, UMTS, HSPA
  • GPS, WiFi
  • Root access enabled right out of the box

Final design is expected to be done this quarter, with a possible September launch.  We’ll keep you posted with any details that trickle in.
