Google Adds “Double Flip” to Launch Gesture Search

Android users may be familiar with Google’s Gesture Search. The app allows you to search your phone’s data by writing characters on the touchscreen, but it’s usefulness was limited because it has not been truly integrated with the OS. To eliminate the need to actually start the gesture search app or have a shortcut take up space on your home screen, Google has added the “Double Flip” gesture.

Flipping your phone away from you and back starts Gesture Search from wherever you are, allowing you to begin a search. Google also provided a few bug fixes, improved accessibility and improved usability. Google notes that this is still very much in its early stages and as always welcomes comments. The “Double Flip” gesture is demonstrated in this video:

Gesture Search is currently available in the Android Market for all devices on Android 1.6 or higher.
