Google held its Inside Search event in San Francisco, where among other things, they have announced and rolled out Places integration into their homepage when navigated to from an Android or iOS device.

Using these shortcuts you can now find local restaurants and bars etc. from right in your browser. Clicking on one of the options brings up a map with markers placed for results, underneath is more details on each of the markers. As you scroll down through the results the map stays up at the top which is pretty neat.

Google has also said during this event that they plan to bring an update to the mobile homepage when navigated to via a tablet. Although it is pretty handy I don’t really see the point when you have all this great functionality already in the Maps app. What do you guys think? Excited about the changes? Or like me think it wasn’t really worth Googles effort as you’ll never use it? Let us know below or on our Facebook Wall!

Also if you want to catch the end of the event, it’s live streamed on YouTube! The live stream has now finished but highlights will most likely be added shortly.
