Google just updated its Google Flights application in order to better help travelers plan their trips, find the cheapest flights and book the best hotels available this holiday seasons.
Since flights fares have a tendency to increase during the busy holiday season, Google Flights will now issue alerts when select airlines are expected to raise prices on relevant routes.
Have you zeroed in your holiday destination yet? If that’s the case, the next step you need to take is to select a specific flight to book.
Google Flights will now issue notifications on how much you can save on a booking and provide tips on how to select the lowest price for said route provided a specific airline hasn’t been selected.
For example, when price history seems to indicate an imminent drop, Google might advise you to wait a few days before booking a certain your flight.
If you haven’t selected the exact dates, Google Flights will suggest the best times to fly for the lowest cost, while offering a glimpse at alternative routes and schedules.
All these notifications will be sent by app straight to the user’s inbox. Google Flights also allows travelers to track and manage saved flights smoothly.
If you’re still undecided about where you should spend the winter holiday, the Explore option comes in handy. It will suggest destination ideas based on the type of vacation you want to go on (ex: skiing trip).
Google Flights also takes care of finding a nice hotel. Just use the search option to look for a hotel in your preferred area, while looking out for those tagged as “Deal”. To view all available Deals you can tap on the newly added Deals tab. The application will also alert users when savings are being made available to loyalty members via the hotel’s website.
Note that Google Flights is a browser-based application optimized for mobile, not an app. There’s no word on whether Google plans to create an Android app anytime soon, so, for the time being you’ll need to access it via your mobile browser.
