Google Wallet expands to additional merchants

With all the hype around Ice Cream Sandwich and the Galaxy Nexus, we overlooked a handful of other relevant newsworthy items.  Take for instance Google Wallet, which expanded to a number of new merchants.  According to the official Google blog, the list of merchants has grown to include American Eagle Outfitters, The Container Store, Foot Locker, Guess, Jamba Juice, Macy’s, OfficeMax and Toys“R”Us locations.

For those not familiar, Google Wallet lets consumers use their Nexus S to pay for purchases wherever MasterCard PayPass readers are located.  Simply swipe your phone across the reader and it deducts from your Citi MasterCard or Google PrePaid Card.  What’s more, these official merchants also allow users to redeem rewards and offers, integrate loyalty incentives, and other nifty features.

Be on the lookout for more merchants in the near future, including Chevron, D’Agostino, Faber News Now, Gristedes Supermarkets and Pinkberry.  Although Google Offers is not available across the entire United States, it’s possible that the gas station down your street is equipped to use Google Wallet.  Check here to see all the places in your neck of the woods who are able to process a Wallet payment!
