It’s here! The “Supersonic” that has been running through the rumor mill has officially been announced by Sprint as the HTC EVO 4G. It has everything they said it would have, and more.

  • WiMax
  • 480 x 800 4.3″ TFT Screen
  • 1Ghz Snapdragon processor
  • 1GB of Built in memory and 512 RAM
  • 8 megapixel camera with flash
  • 1.3 megapixel front facing camera
  • Video capable of 720p
  • Sense UI
  • Android 2.1
  • HDMI out

The list goes on. It is even rumored that the EVO will have the capability to run voice and data at the same time, like GSM networks. Sprint says that feature is still in the testing. The official place for EVO action is on Sprint’s website. There are a couple videos and a great picture gallery in Engadget’s write up.

My pockets are drooling over this one. I picked up the Hero when it came out, but have been anxiously awaiting something faster and even more sexy. This is it. I will be very tempted to pick this up when it comes out this summer.

No specific dates or prices have been announced so far.

  1. This phone has the 'with Google' branding. Is this the first phone having both Sense UI and 'with Google' brand? Hopefully this means faster delivery of Android upgrades and Google apps!

  2. I just saw it one Engadget- that phone is DOPE!!!

KICKSTAND FOR VIDEO VIEWING!!! No holding a 1.5 pound iPad for 2 hours when watching a film! I just bought a Nexus One, so I'm not jealous, but man this phone is the greatest phone I've ever seen!!!

    • In the US various carriers are all calling something different 4G. What T-Mobile is calling 4G is HSPA, while what Verizon and AT&T are calling 4G is LTE, and what Sprint is marketing as 4G is actually WiMax (ISO 802.16). Since Sprint and Verizon both use CDMA for voice and T-Mobile and AT&T use GSM for voice, this divides the carriers further. It’s really a mess, IMNSHO.

  3. I notice on the Sprint site it talks about "mobile hotspot capability connects up to eight Wi-fi enabled devices.." Any idea if they are charging more for 4g services on these type of devices? I see they charge the same for 4g or 3g re: data cards….

Wonder if sprint will add a surcharge for the "hotspot capability?"

  4. Being a current Touch Pro2 user and long time (decade) Windows mobile user, I am seriously stoked about the EVO 4G! Either it, or the Nexus One will be my next device on Sprint. Seriously leaning toward the EVO, but damn, the N1 is a gorgeous device. Either way, I can't wait! I'm already running Android off my storage card on my Touch Pro2 (with most features running), and I am thoroughly enjoying it. To have one of these two devices is really going to rock!
