HTC – “We Aren’t Working On a Tablet, Except This Android One Right Here.”

Fierce Wireless today is reporting that HTC’s CEO Peter Chou has confirmed that his company is indeed working on an Android based tablet, despite statements last year from HTC spokesperson Eric Lin saying that, at the time, there were no plans to build a tablet.  (a lot can happen in this time, we know, this statement was made last July).

Chou confirmed the HTC Android tablet on a conference call to investors, where he made this quote:

“It’s a new market with many competitors, and we don’t want to rush into it,” HTC CEO Peter Chou told investors on a conference call. “We hope the product we eventually unveil will be one that meets consumers’ needs.”

From Chou’s words here, without the rest of the context, it looks like HTC is not rushing a tablet to market to fill the current consumer tablet craze. But I would be willing to bet that their rumored “Flyer” tablet is priority number one.  With a rumored release date of March, they are going to be working hard to bring a product to market that will compete with the iPad and the Galaxy Tab.

The Flyer is rumored to ship with 2.3, with a quick upgrade to Honeycomb.  More as it comes in on the HTC tablet.
