From the talented folks at Emberify, Instant is an app that tracks your smartphone usage to help the user become more aware of their habits and promote a more balanced lifestyle. Similar to fitness trackers, Instant tracks phone habits to make users more aware of their smartphone usage.
We can all admit that smartphones are an amazing piece of technology, and have also become an important and centralized part of our lives. Instant wants the user to become more aware of just how much they use their smartphone, as well as what they use their smartphone for. Instant can track how many times you unlock your phone, which apps you use and how often, and even tracks how much you move and exercise with integrated Google Fit. For the data and information lovers, Instant will give you a graph for a “Quantified Self”.
Learning to use the app is about as easy as installing it. The layout is simple, navigation is easy and fresh thanks to the Material Design makeover, and there are very few extra buttons to confuse the user. The app worked for me exactly how the description promised; show me just how physically inactive I am compared to digitally. I’ve been the using app for three days now, and as I review my chart of gathered data, I feel like I’m looking at the clipboard at my doctor’s office.
Congratulations, Jack, you exercised more on Reddit and Chrome than in real life.
Integration with Google Fit was flawless and worked very well with the app itself. So well, in fact, that this app as a whole almost seems like it was developed by Google itself.
Overall, this app is a must try for those curious about their phone usage, as I was. Will I keep it on my phone as a regular app? Maybe for the next week or so, but a small fraction of my total battery life was used by this app, as it does constantly track your phone’s usage.
I urge you all to give this app a try. Check the Play link below for a download!
