wiktionary_widget_001Today, the official Android Developers blog was updated with an article from Jeff Sharkey with information on Android 1.5 and what to expect in the way of widgets.  Written for developers, the piece provides sample code and general assistance in getting widgets for existing apps.

One last cool thing to mention is that the AppWidget framework is abstracted in both directions, meaning alternative home screens can also contain widgets. Your widgets can be inserted into any home screen that supports the AppWidget framework.

Most people might not recognize the name Jeffrey Sharkey, but those who follow Android closely know his work.  He’s the brains behind CompareEverywhere and some other projects like the iTunes Remote for Android.  After taking home $300,000 in prize money from the first Android Developers Challenge, Sharkey ended up working for Google.
