Kickstarter campaign of the week: ilumi Smartstrip now up for pre-order

ilumi is a smart lighting company that was founded just five years ago by MBA classmates from the University of Texas at Dallas. It has been a favorite company of mine since I saw it gain success when Mark Cuban (Shark Tank) decided to invest in the founders’ dream of making smart lighting. That’s the beauty of the American dream – if you have a great idea, and put in the hard work, you can turn your dream into reality.

ilumi announced its latest Kickstarter campaign where you can get in on early pricing on the all new app controlled Smartstrip. Similar to its lightbulbs, the ilumi Smartstrip is compatible with iOS and Android devices where you can control the LEDs that emit 1500 lumens of light.

An industry first, the Smartstrip has Bluetooth Mesh capability that allows the control of up to 50 ilumi devices simultaneously, which is a heck of a lot of light. Also like ilumi’s lightbulbs, you can change the color of the Smartstrip from warm white, to cool white, and just about every other color you can think of from the app.

What I personally like about the Smartstrip is the IP65 weather resistance rating for outdoor use, as well as the ability to cut the strip to any size I want. Once cut to size, you can tape the Smartstrip to any surface that will allow for adhesive: walls, under kitchen cabinets, behind the TV or computer monitor, beneath the desk or table, or on your outdoor patio. Once cut to size and installed, simply plug it in and pair to your smartphone or tablet.

Other features of the app and Smartstrip:

  • Music sync – light pulses to the beat of your music
  • Smart schedules – create your lighting schedule to adapt to your lifestyle
  • 60 LEDs per meter
  • Starter kit includes a 6.6FT Smartstrip and power supply
  • Extensions available at 3.3FT long
  • Addressable LEDs so you can control every individual LED

Go check out ilumi’s new Smartstrip at Kickstarter now where you can still take advantage of early bird pricing. ilumi is already almost 50% at its $50,000 goal in just 13 hours.
