Music in its earliest forms was invented thousands of years ago. We have loved music as a source of entertainment for just about as long as we have existed. With the MP3 player, smartphone and internet revolution, one can argue we listen to more music now than ever.

Even with today’s iPhone 7’s announcement, one of the biggest controversies was Apple doing away with the standard 3.5mm audio jack. We simply love our music and we don’t want anything to get in the way of listening to it.

One of the most popular technologies to take hold over the last decade is noise cancelling headphones. As more of us migrate to the city, we need a way to tune out all of that background noise that detracts from our music.

Bose is widely known for its noise cancelling technology, but Linner electronics is looking to improve upon noise cancelling headphones by dropping the entry price while maintaining excellent sound quality.

The AndroidGuy’s featured Kickstarter campaign of the week is the world’s lightest active noise cancelling (ANC) earbuds by Linner.

ANC technology in the past has required bulky hardware for earbuds that made them heavy and bulky. Linner figured out a way to shrink the size of its hardware while maintaining ANC. More importantly, Linner made rich and dynamic earbuds that bring music to life. The highs are clear and crisp, with the mids adding warmth and detail, and the lows bring in deep bass. The combination of this sound signature make for an extremely enjoyable listening experience.

ANC in the Linner earbuds block up to 95% of ambient background noise allowing for users to minimize the volume so they can maintain their ear health. I recently took my Linner earbuds on a two hour flight to Northern California, and they worked their magic. Sound, ANC, a high quality build, and very comfortable fit easily make these earbuds some of my favorite I have used to date. I no longer want or need my Bose ANC earbuds that cost almost five times as much.

Sometimes we need to be able to listen to sounds when we need them. Linner also included a setting called ‘Awareness Mode’ that make it possible to hear what’s going on around you in order to stay safe. If you’ve ever read my headphone reviews, you would know I like to walk my dog at night. Walking or jogging with headphones can be very dangerous as you cannot hear cars or cyclists which can hit you and cause serious injury. I’ve used the Linner ANC headphones at night and can hear what I need to hear in order to keep my dog and myself safe when I set them to ‘Awareness Mode’. This is a first for me and I’m never going back to standard headphones while I’m walking or jogging for exercise.

What’s impressive about the Linner earbuds is the ability to offer a complete package at such an affordable price. Linner did not cut a single corner. You can take calls with the built in mic, and the build quality is excellent. The earbuds are some of the most comfortable I’ve put on to date. The earpieces are not circles, they are ovals which makes for a very comfortable fit and I’ve worn them on several occasions for two-three hours per session.

The earpieces, mic, audio jack and housing for the ANC technology are all made from high quality metal that come in Navy Blue or Gold. They are IPX4 rated for sweat resistance, weigh just 19.6g (over 50% lighter than Bose), can reduce noise by up to 26dB, have a minimum of three hour playback time and can even perform as normal headphones if you run out of power. All around, these are not just great earbuds, but they also are great ANC earbuds.

The Linner earbuds can be pre-ordered right now on Kickstarter for just $69 for Super Early Bird backers who prefer the 3.5mm audio jack. People who are looking to get the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus can pre-order the Linner earbuds with a Lightning jack for just $89. Each set comes with a modern canvas storage bag, three pairs of ear tips, and two pairs of ear hooks. Linner will deliver the headphones as early as November of this year and has already reached 30% of its $30k goal in 24 hours. Get in as a Super Early Bird while you can to take advantage of the incredible price of $69.
