Hot on the heels of recent company layoffs, Motorola’s previous Chairman and President, Aymar de Lencquesaing, has stepped down. He served as president of the company since 2016. Before his time as President, he led several Lenovo divisions. Motorola cited in its blog post that Lencquesaing stepped down to spend more time with family.
Not to miss a beat, Lenovo (owner of Motorola) has appointed Sergio Buniac as the new president and chairman. Buniac has been with the company for over 20 years and most recently served as the SVP and GM over Motorola’s Latin American operations. With that role, he helped Motorola achieved the #2 position in market share for those countries.
In the announcement, Lenovo also stated that we should see new phones coming, starting in April 2018. Those phones will probably include the highly leaked Moto G6 or Moto Z3 lines. We will have to wait and see whether these changes will help Motorola.
