Qualcomm Snapdragon Devices to See Netflix First

You’ve been waiting patiently for an official Netflix application to come to Android.  Lord knows, we have too.  Well, the end of the tunnel is nearing as Qualcomm dropped a bit of great news on us today.  Future Android devices running the Snapdragon platform will be able to access instant streaming of their favorite movies and TV shows from Netflix.  According to a press release, this chipset is optimized to bring not only terrific performance , but it’s also secure enough for the guys at Netflix.

Snapdragon processors are designed to deliver dynamic performance and media protection features in a turnkey package, allowing the devices they power to more easily pass through the approval process required for Netflix certification. Additionally, Netflix video decoding is handled by highly efficient dedicated hardware, extending battery life and improving picture quality. – excerpt from press release

There’s no indication yet as to which devices will see Netflix first, nor whether today’s current Snapdragon handsets will get any preferential treatment.  We’re all over this one so be sure to check back!
