Samsung has tapped a new senior VP for its global design team where he will oversee all of its designs. Lee Don-tae previously worked for a U.K. design agency called Tangerine which consulted with Apple more than two decades ago. In fact, Tangerine is where Apple found its current design lead Jony Ive.
It’s not immediately clear what role Lee will take nor how soon we might feel his presence felt. With the Samsung Galaxy S6 already underway it stands to reason we might not see his efforts for another generation. Then again, if all we’re talking about is the external look and feel of a product then we could see it in the next few months.
Although Samsung has shaken things up a bit with the Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy A series of handsets, we’d be game for even more design departure. Be it curved displays, rear buttons, or something else, Samsung could do well to offer a fresh look for its future models.
