Skype for HTC Thunderbolt Leaks to Internet

When it was announced that Skype was going to be on the HTC Thunderbolt at the time of release, eyes opened and the masses looking for VZW’s first 4G handset were excited.  This was good news!  I, for one, was excited at the idea of being able to Skype with my wife while at work.  However, shortly before the release of the phone, a bomb dropped, and it was announced that Skype was taken off the device.  Like many others, I still got my Thunderbolt, but it felt noticeably lighter.

Verizon Wireless and Skype are committed to providing a great mobile video calling experience for customers,  and we are currently working on ensuring that when launched, Skype mobile with video on Verizon 4G LTE phones will deliver the best possible video calling experience.  We don’t have a  specific date for availability to share at this time.” –

We can now rejoice (in a way).  The leak is out and it is possible to download the Skype application.  This is not an official release, as there are still some problems with getting this to properly work.   Engadget noted that video quality was just as good on the 4G network as it was on Wi-Fi connection.  The app is also appears to work fine on 3G connections too.  This is great news for those of us looking forward to Skype and being able to use the first front facing camera offered by Verizon.  Good luck to those of you who choose to try this before the official release.
