Smarter, more intuitive Pocket 5.0 coming soon

Next week the Pocket app for Android will be receiving a massive update when Pocket 5.0 is released.

Pocket said that the update, which is coming Nov. 20 for Android devices, will bring smarter, more dynamic and streamlined navigation and search, so you should be able to spend more time reading your content and less time searching for it.

If you’re not familiar with Pocket, it’s a service that lets you save content from anywhere to view later. The company said that over 800 million items have been saved to Pocket, with an additional 1.5 million being saved every day from thousands of apps, blogs, and websites.

With Pocket 5.0, you will get Highlights, which uses Pocket’s insights to find the most relevant content saved in your list. That content is then split into different categories such as “Best of” – the most impactful articles and videos, “Trending” – the most popular content shared throughout Pocket, and “Long Reads” and “Quick Reads,” organized by their length. Highlights will also adapt to you over time, offering dynamic categories that are regularly updated to match your favorite sites, authors, interests, etc.

Some of the other features of Pocket 5.0 are a new side navigation to easily get to your List, Highlights, Tags, Favorites and Archive, an enhanced UX with bigger visual tiles for videos and a new Bulk Edit, to make changes to numerous content at once, and Pocket Preferences, which automatically updates your interests in connected apps so the content they recommend changes as you do.

While Pocket 5.0 coming to Android soon, it is available now for iOS and the functionality will be coming to the web, packaged, and Mac apps in the coming months.
