Sony and Adobe Team for $200,000 App Challenge Ahead of Tablet Release

Sony and Adobe have paired up for a new app contest in an attempt to drum up developer support for their forthcoming tablets.  As some of you might already know, Sony has a pair of tablets due in the fall which are expected to marry unconventional form factor with the company’s services and content.  This new $200,000 App Challenge is designed to help spur development of killer apps that use Adobe Flash and HTML5.

Developers have a chance to win $200,000 in total cash prizes and opportunity to see their apps promoted on Sony’s tablets. Random participants will be given pre-release access to prototypes of the Sony S1 or S2 tablet as well as the newest version of Adobe tools.

  • Contest categories include Entertainment, Lifestyle and Community, Games, Business and Productivity, and Innovation.
  • A panel of Adobe, Sony and third party judges will evaluate application submissions based on quality and performance, innovation and creativity, as well as overall user experience.
  • The contest is open to submissions from the U.S., Japan, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K.
  • Developers  who submit working versions of their applications by September 16 have the opportunity to be selected as a MAX Showcase App, win a full MAX conference (October 1st, Los Angeles) pass and more.
