Sony Ericsson Reports Q1 Results, Looks to New Xperia Handsets for Rebound

Sony Ericsson’s first quarter results are in and they appear to be a mixed bag for the conglomerate.  With them putting more focus on smart phones and less on feature phones, overall sales have dropped (-19%) a bit.  With a 23% decrease as compared to same time last year, shipments were also down at 8.1 million units.  Things look to pick up with the introduction of a new line of Xperia devices as the PLAY and other models begin hitting various carriers around the globe.  It will be interesting to see what kind of an impact the Japan earthquake has on supply and distribution as Sony Ericsson takes aim for the top Android smart phone vendor in the world.
