Sprint Update Brings Froyo and ID Packs To New Devices

According to a press release, Sprint will be releasing an OTA update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Samsung Epic 4G. No, its not Gingerbread (Android 2.3), it just adds support for Sprint’s ID packs. The ID packs are essentially specially chosen application and widgets depending on type of ID you decide to enable. For example, an ESPN ID would include ESPN applications as well as widgets that show sports scores.

“Sprint ID quickly customizes device with apps, widgets, ringtones and more in a single download, based on customers’ interests or favorite brands; Most popular Sprint ID pack downloads include Yahoo!, MTV Music ID and ESPN ID.”

This update will not only provide the ID packs for the Samsung Epic 4G, but also an OS upgrade to version 2.2 (Froyo). The 2.2 upgrade will enable new features, such as Adobe Flash, Bluetooth dialing, and more. Sprint is hoping that this update will reach everyone by March 24th.
