ToyMail on Kickstarter

A recent Kickstarter campaign lets you stay connected to your kids, grandchildren, and more with ToyMail – We send Mail with Toys!

So how does it work?

ToyMail is a toy mailbox for your kids, you can send voice messages to their toys. When you, as a parent, grandparent, etc. want to send your child a message using the ToyMail Parent application. As the campaign states “Parents, grandparents, cousins, neighbors, friends (really, anyone who matters) can stay connected to kids they love using Toymail.” This device allows you and your younger kids to communicate, so you’re youngest don’t have to pick up a phone and call you!

The Mailmen

Snort, Fairfax, Buck, Rochester, and Milkshop are the WiFi enabled mailmen who’ll take and deliver messages from you to the kids! You can send customized messages to each child.

The application will be available for iOS soon, with Android’s application coming in 2014. From what we’ve gathered, you’ll be able to send invites to other loved ones, so that they may also connect with your children. If Grandma has a smartphone, (and an invite), she can tell Jessie and Max goodnight and that she loves them. If your kid’s coolest Uncle Steve (with an invite and app) will be coming over for a visit, he can tell your kids ahead of time. This toy seems cool and innovative, with a small twist of strange, but wildly creative non-the-less. The ToyMail characters run on AA-batteries, which considering new technology, we’d have hoped for a built in lithium-ion batter, and some sort of inductive charger, so your child can place ToyMail on a special mat at Bed Time, however with normal usage, ToyMail should last up to a year with normal usage according to the manufacturers.
