WhatsApp on my WhatsTop? Your Desktop!

Yes, new desktop apps are still being developed. Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp has just announced they have a new one. In case you are unfamiliar with WhatsApp, here’s a bit of a refresher:

  • Cross-platform instant messaging client
  • Users can send text messages, documents, images, videos and more
  • Over one billion users worldwide
  • Most popular messaging app in the world
  • Owned by Facebook

The Scoop

The new desktop app will sync messages back and forth and you will get notifications on both your phone and your desktop. It essentially mirrors the functionality of your phone so you can switch from your device to your computer and not miss a beat.

If you have ever used the current WhatsApp Web app then you will feel right at home using the Desktop application, it seems to be identical.  It’s only available for Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 and Mac OS 10.9 and up. Sorry windows 7 users, no love this time.

The best part for me is now I can get my WhatsApp message notifications on my desktop screen without ever looking at my phone. You can get the Android app in the PlayStore and the Desktop “Companion” app from WhatsApp Here.
