New York Knicks Launch Android App

T-Mobile certainly loves Android and the NBA.  Every time we turn around, they’re doing something that ties the two together.  This week saw the release of a T-Mobile sponsored app called The Knicks: T-Mobile Live.  Designed with hardcore (and local) Knickerbocker fans in mind, the free application is broken down into three categories and feature Knicks related content and information whether you are in attendance or not.

For those of you who are at The Garden to take in a game, the app offers recommendations and concession line tips. Type in your section number and find the closest concession stands, restrooms or stores.  Taking things one step further, the app provides special discounts and offers for merchandise.  You’ll also find maps and listings of all amenities at Madison Square Garden, and directions, parking, transportation and even local dining suggestions.

T-Mobile will manage a live twitter feed through games and offer up extra tips such as beating the lines for food and drinks.  And finally, what good would a Knicks app be without current news, pictures, and videos?

You can download The Knicks: T-Mobile Live from the Android Market for free today of by scanning/clicking the barcode to the right!  The only problem we see with this app is that it’s limited to local fans.

According to the market description, “Knicks: T-Mobile Live content is only accessible within 75 miles of NYC. If you are located outside of this area, this app won’t work.”  As The Dude would say, “Bummer, man.”  Here’s hoping an app gets rolled out for every team!

The new app will provide fans with information across three key categories – The Garden, which will offer tips, maps and listing of amenities for game attendees; At the Game, a live Twitter feed during all Knicks home games from MSG; and exclusive Knicks related content and information.

“We are excited to launch this new mobile app for Android with T-Mobile, and provide Knicks fans with an enhanced game experience in-arena and out,” said Scott Richman, senior vice president and general manager, MSG Interactive. “From the in-arena concession line tips to exclusive Knicks content, this new app will provide fans with a truly unique experience never before provided by a mobile app.”

“We are always looking for innovative ways for Knicks fans to interact with the brand – online, in-arena, at home, or on the go,” said Howard Jacobs, senior vice president, marketing and ticket sales, MSG Sports. “The new Knicks: T-Mobile Live app offers a first of its kind experience for fans across all those platforms, and provides true benefits and unique access for fans that use the app.”

“As the official wireless carrier of the NBA and the New York Knicks, T-Mobile is excited to bring the NBA closer to Knicks fans through innovative and relevant applications like The Knicks: T-Mobile Live app,” said Mike Belcher, vice president of Media, Sponsorships and Events, T-Mobile. “Fans want access to rich content that fuels their passion for the game and enhances their experience AT the game, which is exactly what this new app offers.”

To enhance the in-arena experience at Madison Square Garden, the app will offer live at the game recommendations and concession line tips for all home games. Fans will be able to type in their section number and find the closest concession stand, restroom or merchandise store, where users of the app will get special discounts and offers. The app will also offer user-friendly maps and listings of all amenities at MSG, and directions, parking, transportation and local dining suggestions.

In addition, there will be a T-Mobile @ The Game live Twitter feed that will offer insider tips throughout game nights, like shortest concession lines, special offers and behind-the-scenes insights. And of course, the app will provide die-hard Knick fans with current news, photos, and videos, and exclusive video blogs from Knicks insiders.

The Knicks: T-Mobile Live application was developed by MSG Interactive, which oversees all Madison Square Garden wireless and online initiatives, in conjunction with T-Mobile and Ubermind. The new Knicks application is free for all fans in the Android Market.
