Up for review today we have the Mimoco MimoPowerTube2. Specifically, we got our hands on the recently introduced Star Wars design based off Darth Vader’s lightsaber.

Like your standard portable power supply, this little beauty has a MicroUSB input and USB output. Additionally, you’ll find a power button and a power level indicator, both on the top of the device. The unit has a cylindrical shape and a nice weight which allows for not only easy charging, but one that lends itself to the random lightsaber fight with your friend, kids or by yourself.

Setup for this charger is a snap; simply plug in and charge the device. After an average of 2-3 hours you will have enough juice to recharge your phone, tablet, or digital camera.  As most of today’s newer phones tend to hover around 2500-3000mAh for battery capacity, you’ll find the Mimoco juices up a handset to get you through a busier day – or longer. You’ll get mixed results for tablets and other devices.

Next to the power button is a light indicator to visually represent the amount of power left in the MimoPowerTube2. With four lights, you’ll know within about 25 percent as to where you are in terms of juice.

I have used this charger on multiple occasions and have had no issues with it doing what it is designed to do.  I found it great for quick jump-starts to my phone and suspect you would, too. But, don’t expect it to charge your device long term. Today’s newer phones will deplete the old lightsaber pretty quickly and it will need recharged.

All in all this is a really great product with rather nice attention to design. I even charged my son’s tablet with it when we were stuck at the dentist’s office and had a power crisis.

Mimoco makes a number of Star Wars-themed power solutions as well as other brands. I’ve seen some of the USB flash drives in person and think they’re as visually cool as they are practical. These are not the type of products you hide away or toss in a drawer.  Indeed, you’ll want to display them proudly on the desk or bookshelf. You will pay a slight premium for the aesthetics, but you’ll end up with something that speaks to your geek sensibilities.
