Unlike our forefathers before us, carrying around a diary is not something that many of us do. With today’s busy lifestyles it can be a struggle to remember to carry around a book with you when you have to run out the door to make your 8:00 am meeting because you thought it would be a good idea binge watch your new favorite show on Netflix. Fortunately for us, Better Diary has just released an app by the same name so that we no longer have that excuse.
One of the things that I really liked about the app was how simple and straightforward it was to use. To get started all you have to do is click on the circle with the plus sign on the bottom thanks to Google’s new Material Design guidelines. From there you can jump straight into pouring your deepest darkest secrets into the app. A cool twist of Better Diary is how it allows you choose your feelings, the weather, and the date so that you can have a better record of how your day was. From then on you can view your entries from the default card list view or by a calendar view that is accessible from the menu button. You can also change the color scheme of the app by going into the settings menu and choosing whichever color suites your style best.
I really could not find anything negative that can be said of the app. It does what it’s supposed to do and that is allow you to take take down notes and personal reflections with some added features to augment the experience.

I’ve been using the said app for six months now. Everything that has happened in the span of 180 days, even the littlest of things, are recorded there. And then by July 11, I may or may not have deleted some file on my phone which I thought was a useless memory-sipping file. But later when I opened Better Diary, I almost (almost) wailed because EVERYTHING is gone. Okay, maybe not everything, the first entries I’ve written are still there. But the rest, the I-can’t-even-count-how-many rest, was gone.
I don’t know where the Better Diary cloud is, or if the said cloud even exists. I do not know if my entries were really backed-up either. It’s a beautiful app, that’s why it sucked big time when I lost my entries. I miss writing with no inhibitions at all.
If, by chance, you were able to read this comment and you know how to get to their cloud, please please please contact me!
Desperately wanting to get the diary back,
R.
