Why are you Surprised about the Netflix Rate Hike?

There has been a tsunami of hate that has been flowing towards Netflix with their announcement that they will be raising their fees on rate plans that include both streaming and DVD's in the mail. In essence, Netflix has doubled their fees if you want to both stream and receive DVD's as well.I have read post after post, comment after comment blasting Netflix about this decision. People saying that they are leaving the service, that they have had enough and taking their money elsewhere. (Where might I ask?) I have seen people say that Netflix's timing is bad because the economy is struggling. My response? You are all insane to think that this was not coming.

Google Music to Finally Launch, Without Major Label Backing

Without knowing all the details, it stuns me that record labels in America continue to be very short sighted about the fact that the vast majority of consumers get their music digitally from the internet. Perhaps they are still smarting over the Napster debacle from the 90's, but if an internet giant like Google came to me and said, "Hey, let's launch a killer service that all of our users will have access to and will get you guys paid, but it will be in a different way than you are used to.", I would sit up and listen and most likely act. Not so with the current major recording companies, as Engadget is reporting that someone has leaked that Google Music will be announced today at I/O, but as a cloud storage and streaming service rather than a subscription based offering. And the labels wonder why the continue to hemorrhage money.

BREAKING: Amazon Launches Cloud Player for Android and Web, Cloud-Streaming Music At Long Last!

Amazon seems to be on a roll lately, and have just released Cloud Player and Cloud Drive, a cloud-based music streaming solution for the web, and more interestingly, mobile devices like Android. Each user is given 5GB of space in their personal Cloud Drive (unless the user purchases an MP3 album on AmazonMP3, which will automatically and freely boost their space to 20GB for one year) to handle their music. Interesting features include the ability to re-download anything that is uploaded to the Cloud Drive, and the ability stream all of the music stored online to any Android device that has the Amazon MP3 app installed.
