If you’re looking to root and install a custom Rom on your Android device, you’re going to need to have access to your device’s USB debugging mode. USB debugging can only be found under Developer options in Settings. By default, Developer options will not be enabled on your device. “How do I get access to Developer options!?” you may be asking yourself. Keep reading to find out.

How to do it

  1. Open Settings
  2. Scroll down to About Phone
  3. Open About Phone
  4. Scroll down to Build number
  5. Tap Build number 7 times. After two taps, you will see a pop up that says you are 5 taps away from becoming a developer. Don’t panic. Continue tapping. The number on this pop up will decrease with each tap.
  6. After your 7th tap, a new pop up will appear that says “You are now a developer!”

Congratulations! You have now completed the first step in your journey towards rooting your phone and installing a custom Rom!
