U.S. Cellular announced the Android 2.1-powered HTC Desire for August 27. For those new to Android, the Desire featured a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 3.7-inch touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, integrated GPS, and Wi-Fi. It was essentially a Nexus One with an optical trackball and HTC’s Sense UI layered on top.
The Desire was the second Android phone on U.S. Cellular, following the Samsung Acclaim launched in July. Three more Android devices were still planned for U.S. Cellular before the end of 2010, including the Samsung Galaxy S in October and two LG Android handsets.
The Desire came preloaded with U.S. Cellular apps including My Contacts Backup, City ID, Tone Room Deluxe, and Your Navigator Deluxe, alongside the standard Google services suite. Seven customizable home screen panels rounded out the experience.
