Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy Tab at the IFA conference in Berlin. Looking very much like a giant Galaxy S, the Tab featured a 7-inch TFT-LCD WSVGA (1024×600) display, a Cortex A8 1.0GHz processor, a 3-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls. It ran Android 2.2 with full Flash Player 10.1 support. Other hardware included 3G HSPA, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 3.0.
Samsung positioned the Galaxy Tab as a new category of device — not quite phone, not quite PC — designed for on-the-go media consumption, browsing, and communication. Key content apps at launch included Readers Hub (e-books), Media Hub (video), and Music Hub.
The Galaxy Tab was set to roll out in Europe in mid-September, with US, Asian, and Korean markets following in the coming months.
