Staples looks to be the place to go this year for Android tablets. The office retailer is forecasting at least eight Android tablets by June with five of them running Honeycomb.
You know that line in The Social Network where Justin Timberlake’s character says, “…a million dollars is not cool. You know what is cool? A billion dollars”? That the first thing I thought of when I learned that Acer plans to release Android-based tablets in 2011 with Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors. Yup, that’s quad-core prowess they are talking about.
Acer is working on their affordable Android line, the beTouch series. What we do know for sure is that it’s running Android 2.2 (FroYo), has a 2.8″ QVGA screen, a 3.2 megapixel camera and a 600MHz processor. Not exactly a top of the line phone, but for about 200€ (about US$ 268) you really can’t go wrong.
The NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset is poised to become the de facto benchmark for mobile processors in the new year. Already expected on a number of devices such as the LG Star and Motorola tablet, DigiTimes says we should add Acer, Asustek Computer, Toshiba and Samsung to the list.
I believe the quote that I am looking for comes from Top Gun, “Son, you’re ego is writing checks your body can’t cash” in reference to the news that Acer’s CEO Gianfranco Lanci is predicting that Acer’s tablet division, which makes both Android and Windows tablets are going to go take over Apple’s early lead in the tablet market.
