Sprint and Motorola announced a reinvigorated business relationship, with Sprint, Boost Mobile, and Virgin Mobile USA planning to release more than 10 new Motorola devices in 2011. The first was the Photon 4G for Sprint.
The Photon 4G featured a 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor, international GSM capabilities, a 4.3-inch qHD display, a kickstand, an 8-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, a VGA front-facing camera, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Motorola’s UI. Like the Atrix 4G, it supported Motorola’s webtop application for laptop-style use when docked. Full specs included 1GB RAM, 16GB onboard storage with microSD up to 32GB, 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot for up to eight devices, and enterprise security features.
The Virgin Mobile Triumph was also announced alongside it, a slimmer device at 0.4 inches thick with a 4.1-inch WVGA display, 512MB RAM, and dual cameras capable of 720p video. Notably, it shipped with Android 2.2 Froyo, already considered outdated at launch.
Other Motorola devices announced for later in 2011 on Boost Mobile included the Titanium (Android 2.1), the Theory, and the i412.
