Motorola officially announced their latest Android offering, the FLIPOUT. Some may recall seeing this phone when it was rumored under names like “Ruth” and “Twist” a few months back. The compact and stylish phone features Android 2.1, a 3-megapixel camera, and an updated version of MOTOBLUR with seven home screens. Flipping the unique handset open reveals a five-row QWERTY with a directional pad. It was the first Motorola device to launch with Android 2.1, including live wallpapers and added security for corporate email.
The FLIPOUT was set for release in select European countries later that quarter in country-specific colors: Licorice, Fairway Green, Raspberry Crush, Brilliant Blue, Poppy Red, Saffron, and White.
As a full Google experience phone, the FLIPOUT included Gmail, Market, YouTube, Search, and Maps. The browser featured multi-touch pinch zooming and Flash Lite. The 3-megapixel camera came with KODAK PERFECT TOUCH technology for improved image quality.
The press release was light on hardware specifics, though the target demographic probably wasn’t shopping by processor speed. This was clearly a niche device aimed at a specific audience.
Features of the enhanced MOTOBLUR:
- Happenings and Messages widgets – filter by social networking account, by contact(s), or by contact group
- Screen customization – move and resize preloaded widgets on up to seven home screens
- Battery Manager – manage battery consumption across three performance modes
- Data Manager – monitor data usage from the home screen
- Personal and Corporate email – pushed directly to the device
- Retweet capabilities
