Verizon and Casio announced earlier today that the rugged G’zOne Commando will join the smart phone line up later this week. Dropping on April 28th with the Droid Incredible 2, the Commando meets military standards for rain, dust, temperature, and other environmental factors. The $199 phone runs Android 2.2 and features 5-megapixel camera, support for Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth, GPS, and 3G mobile hotspots. On the software front, the G’zOne Commando offers “high-security encryption” for you corporate email account and G’zGEAR, an app which operates in 8 different modes. Each of these modes centers around various outdoors-y activities including tides, temperatures, hiking, star gazing, and more.
You’re probably right in guessing that the G’zOne Commando is not the phone for you. Rather, it’s for the construction, utilities, and factory employees who tend to find themselves in poor weather and environmental conditions that would normally kill a phone. Hit the press release for more information ahead of the sale date.
