Printing has been the Achilles’ heel of mobile devices since their existence. In the last 18 months, printing has started to get easier by the means of apps by manufacturers and even Google building in its cloud printing service. Epson follows that trend with their extremely easy to use Epson LabelWorks LW-600P Label Printer.
Opening up the package, I found an as expected small, mobile printer that actually looked nice and something that I would be proud to own. The printer itself can either be plugged in or can be used on-the-go after charging the battery. Setting up the Epson LabelWorks printer was surprisingly easy. It was a literal plug and play situation and it paired with ease to my device.
After plugging the device in, I turned it on to connect it easily to my Nexus 5 via Bluetooth. Loading the label printer up with printer tape was just as simple. Slightly tug on the door where it says open and you can slide a tape cartridge right into the device.
I went to the Google Play Store and downloaded the Epson iLabel app. The iLabel app is the official app for the device, but there are some third party devices that are compatible, such as ScanLife. The app itself was about as simple as they come. You have a couple options to choose from including the ability to create original labels, QR codes, bar codes, and a date and time label function. The app also comes with a label catalog of commonly used pre-designed labels including “high voltage” and “do not enter” labels. The neatest feature that I found on the app was the ability to use handwriting and importing custom graphics on the original labels to make your labels even more unique. Another fun feature is the ability to use speech-to-text to input the text on the labels and the app lets you save your custom labels for future use.
I have been printing various labels over the past two weeks. I’m amazed with the quickness of this printer and the quality. The labels usually print out within a few seconds and the quality is of the highest caliber. In the picture I am including of some of the labels I printed, you can see on the top label that it has my signature that I handwrote onto the label.
The labels themselves I found to be of high quality. The labels come in a variety of styles. I was actually amazed by the amount of different styles that these labels come in. Yellow on black, black on white, ribbon, even glow-in-the-dark labels. The variety of labels available are amazing and further helps cement my amazement with this device. In the sample pic I attached below, this is the ribbon sample I was given. The ribbon printed quick and clear. Even my signature using the handwriting feature printed fast and clear.
The Epson LabelWorks printer may come in a small package but ultimately delivers exactly as advertised with with a superb mobile app to make everything run easily and smoothly while working from your mobile device. You can buy the Epson LabelWorks LW-600P for $112.17 on Amazon.com. The prices of the cartridges vary between $12,97 and $23.97 again on Amazon.com. The app, Epson iLabel can be found for free on the Google Play Store.
